Just over a thousand meters above sea level, surrounded by meadows and forests, here is the Hirschen Wald. A stately guest house in the friendly Appenzellerland. Natural, cheerful hospitality, a well-kept kitchen that the owner himself takes care of. All of this is part of the tradition at the Hirschen. The two cozy guest rooms, the 250-year-old wall buffet, the old wood-fired oven, they all have something to say about it. Here, you can celebrate any party that comes along. The hotel rooms at the Hirschen, tastefully furnished, are bright and comfortable. Each has a shower/toilet and TV. Each is rurally quiet. And from the windows, every guest sees their own little piece of Appenzell. Baking is still done in the old oven every day. For three generations, the smell of fresh bread and the small, well-known pastries has filled the Hirschen. They are made according to carefully guarded family recipes. Hiking trails literally pass by the front door of the Hirschen. They lead over hills, through forests, across country. And more than that, they lead imperceptibly out of the rush, the stress, past a shady tree, past a remote farmstead, ever further into the silence. It is not far to Lake Constance, the town of Appenzell, or up into the Alpstein. St. Gallen, with its museums, its cinemas, its theater, is also easy to reach.
