Culinary Hike in the Rhine Valley between Au and Marbach

The culinary hike in the St.Gallen Rhine Valley is varied in every aspect. The route leads past meadows, forests, inland canals and vineyards as well as houses and settlements. Basically, the tour is not very strenuous as it is mostly flat.

The only exceptions are the ascents to Restaurant Maienhalde and later to Restaurant Schloss Weinstein. Here the «Rheintaler Höhenweg» climbs a little steeper, but the effort is worth it as you are rewarded with culinary delights and views of the Rhine Valley and surrounding region.

In between you can relax and enjoy the main course on the flat stage and especially in the inner courtyard of the Businesshotel Forum Widnau. Get to know and love the St.Gallen Rhine Valley. 

Menu and schedule

11.15 a.m.: Starter at the Restaurant Maienhalde

Choice of starter:

• Bernecker Riesling x Sylvaner cream soup

• Colourful seasonal salad with Rehmostbröckli (roe deer juice crumbs)

All dishes are also available as vegetarian options.

1.00 p.m.: Main course at Businesshotel Forum Widnau

Choice of main course:

• Khao Soi chicken ragout / North Thai specialty / basmati rice

• Homemade gnocchi / pesto / cherry tomatoes / spinach / parmesan

4.00 p.m.: Dessert at the Restaurant Schloss Weinstein

Choice of dessert:

• Kaiserschmarren (sweet cut-up pancake with raisins) with homemade apple sauce or vanilla ice cream

• Cream Caramel with pine-almond brittle and blackcurrant glacé

Arrival from St.Gallen: Train (S4) from St.Gallen main station at 09.39 hrs, arrival at 10.09 hrs in Au, SG (not included in the price)

Return journey to St.Gallen: Train from Rebstein-Marbach at 17.10 hrs to St.Gallen main station (not included in the price)
